South West charity Brunelcare has previewed its pioneering Very Sheltered Housing scheme – Waverley Gardens - which opens to tenants this Autumn.Waverley Gardens, in Bishopsworth, is set to be Brunelcare’s new flagship site, with 66 modern apartments and communal areas, designed for older people, many of whom live with dementia. A preview of the site was offered to local residents, trustees and friends of the charity, and local housing and social workers. In addition to a guided tour, visitors were given a presentation, highlighting the hopes for the scheme and the wider community which it will also serve.
Helen Joy, CEO at Brunelcare explained, “The population in the South West is ageing faster than most other regions in the UK and with this comes an increase in the number of people living with dementia. Very Sheltered Housing represents just one of the housing options for older people requiring some level of care and support, enabling them to continue to live independently. Waverly Gardens will offer the latest thinking in design, and crucially provide a safe and comfortable home for tenants.”
