Affordable penthouse homes in Devon
13.08.2007
People Teignmouth are settling into their new homes this week after the completion of a major affordable housing project in the Devon town.
The former used car lot at County Garage in Bitton Park Road has been given a new lease of life with the arrival of 17 rented apartments, delivered by Sovereign Development Consortium and Teignbridge District Council.
These homes have been rented to people from the council waiting list, and has been welcomed by the district’s housing chief.
Sovereign’s Senior Development Manager Sarah Griffin added: "Sites like these often go to private developers for executive homes, so I’m really pleased that Sovereign managed to secure the site, and make a dent in Teignbridge’s waiting list."
And Cllr Brian Berman, Teignbridge Executive Spokesperson for Housing Services said: "Affordable housing is one of Teignbridge’s top priorities, and we are delighted to see this substantial new provision for Teignmouth.
"Quality affordable homes are always in high demand across the South West, and we look forward to facilitating further high-quality developments such as this throughout the district."
The £1.4m project was funded with £400,000 of grant from the Housing Corporation and district council, with the balance coming from Sovereign’s own balance sheet.
The four-storey block features 14 x 2 bed apartments, 1 x 1 bed apartment, plus two penthouse-style larger 2 bed flats. Talbot Court, as its known, also has a new access route from First Avenue to ease congestion.
