Sovereign provides rural homes in Wargrave
10.10.2010
Sovereign South+West is committed to providing affordable new homes in rural locations. As part of this, Sovereign has recently been working in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council and Wargrave Parish Council to help deliver 10 much needed new homes in Wargrave. Importantly, the new Blakes Rd development is also going to be the first rural exception site in the town and is being built on land originally owned by the Parish Council. The homes will also only be offered to people who have lived in the parish for significant time or have identifiable links to the parish. This local focus will also be a condition passed on to all future tenants.
This new development, which is going to cost approximately £4m, is also being funded by a Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) grant of £452,000. Of the 10 new homes, 7 homes are going to be available for General Needs Rent and 3 for New Build HomeBuy. The homes, which are due to be completed in March 2011, are also going to be eco-friendly and are being built to code three of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Stuart Roberts, Regional Head of Development for Sovereign, noted, "This new scheme is Wargrave highlights our focus on developing new homes in rural locations. We are very pleased to be offering these new homes and would also like to thank Wargarve Parish Council for their help and support with this important new scheme at Blakes Road."
Julian McGhee-Sumner, Executive Member for Social Care Cllr from Wokingham Borough Council, said: "This is great opportunity for local people to get on the housing ladder who might not be able to without leaving the town they are familiar with. Too many people from areas such as Wargrave are forced to move out because of high house prices and that is not healthy for the area in the long term."
