Ability passes the 500 home milestone!
01.12.2010
Ability is delighted to announce the completion of 24 supported housing flats in East Wichelstowe, Swindon, taking the total number of Ability properties over the 500 mark. This is also the first Ability development in Swindon, since being selected by Swindon Council as a preferred development partner in 2009.
The 24 flats, including five for wheelchair use, will provide supported housing for a range of people with identified housing needs in the Swindon area, such as people with Learning Disabilities and Single Homeless tenants.
Part of an extensive new development of over 4000 homes, schools and shops on the outskirts of Swindon, the flats were built in partnership with Sovereign Housing Group, through the Sovereign Development Consortium. As well as being a key milestone for Ability in terms of property numbers, this is also our first completed joint development with Sovereign Housing Group.
Ability and Sovereign have been working in partnership via the Sovereign Development Consortium (SDC) for several years. Partnership working brings many benefits enabling Ability to access grant funding as well as development and project management support and contractors and consultants.
Lindy Morgan, Director of the Sovereign Development Consortium commented: ‘Providing new supported housing is an arduous development journey but through linking experienced developing RSLs with specialist providers in the Sovereign Development Consortium we have been able to create more opportunities for increased provision."
Steven Hurrell, Partnership and Development Director at Ability Housing Association said: "The completion of these units at Swindon mark a number of significant milestones for Ability – passing 500 units in management, completing our first joint mixed development with Sovereign Housing Group and completing our first units in Swindon since being selected as a preferred development partner by Swindon Borough Council. We are delighted to have worked so effectively in partnership with Sovereign Housing Group and look forward to further joint delivery on other schemes that we currently have in the development pipeline."
