Berkshire

Berkshire is the second fastest growing property market over the last 40 years, doubling in size with the addition of 130,000 homes between 1961-91.

Despite this rapid growth – albeit marginally reduced since 1994 – house prices have remained among the highest outside London.

Almost 26,000 homes will be built in Berkshire over the next decade, largely through reusing brownfield sites in the seven major towns of Reading, Slough, Bracknell, Wokingham, Newbury, Windsor and Maidenhead.

Densities of 50 per hectare are sought for urban sites, with 30 per hectare in more remote areas.

Sovereign Development Consortium enjoys ‘preferred partner’ status for Berkshire’s six district councils. Our work so far (see case studies), includes top-of-the-range accommodation for older people at Carnarvon Place (Newbury), and Lady Elizabeth House (Maidenhead).

Rural schemes are progressing in West Berkshire and Wokingham, and we are working with councils to increase provision of special needs housing in Reading, Newbury and Thatcham.
