SDC believes that close industry relationships are vital to achieve the quality, savings and speed paramount in the current climate. We recognise that the advantages of this work two ways – developers can advise on the latest construction techniques, while landlords can have more influence on the supply chain, or encourage local labour to reinvigorate deprived areas.
Most of our busy programme is reusing brownfield sites, so we’ve signed up four construction firms to work with us on small-scale contracts, typically 1-100 properties. This means that the builder gets guaranteed regular work and doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel every time a tricky site comes up. For us, it means faster completions, better quality control, and a chance to share ideas on the latest techniques.
Construction consultants Cyril Sweett was the natural choice to help us put together this groundbreaking package comprising the following four firms.
Leadbitter Construction
Abingdon-based regional contractor with strong track record on innercity regeneration, market town extensions, and rural infill. SDC has already allocated work for 80 homes to Leadbitter . |
 |
Pearce Group Ltd
Whether building high-density apartments or supermarkets for Tesco, Bristol-based Pearce can handle contracts up to £25m, and has valuable insight into the commercial sector. SDC has already allocated work for 60 homes to Pearce. |
 |
EG Carter
This family-run firm has one of the lowest staff turnovers in the industry, and sector experience working with other landlords. SDC has already allocated work for 60 homes to Carter, along the M4 corridor. |
 |
Rok Property Solutions
Rok’s excellent systems and processes help deliver affordable homes on small tricky sites. The firm has eight offices across the SDC region, and SDC has already allocated work for 60 new homes to get underway. |
 |
The four-year deal will see these construction firms not only deliver around 500 homes a year, but also help the Consortium in land assembly and occasional joint ventures.
And how will we know it’s worked? The construction industry may worry about red tape when dealing with housing associations, but here at SDC we’re focussing our efforts on the targets that matter to our residents, raising standards and increasing efficiency.
Of course, we are always interested in expanding our industry network, and we always have new projects on the table, whether replacing our older stock, or taking the affordable quota on newbuild through the S106 process. Contact Lindy Morgan to discuss further.
